The Roadies -- Luke 8

We spend so much time talking about Jesus' and his ministry, we sometimes neglect the people around him.  Jesus had almost rock star status and he had crowds around him to prove it.  These roadies of Jesus' followed him wherever he went. They had hearts that were in need of his mercy and grace; they had ears that were open to hearing truth; they had eyes that yearned to see the freedom of salvation; and they had minds that were open to thinking differently.  These people were needy in some way and they were humble enough to come to Jesus, sometimes when all other hope had been lost.

I sometimes imagine myself in the crowds around Jesus.  I find myself sitting on the side of a hill waiting to be fed by a little boy's lunch and Jesus' ability to multiply it several times over; I sit as Jesus begins to talk about how to live life God's way instead of our own. I'm there that walks along the shore of the Sea of Galilee all the way around to the other side so that when he gets out of the boat he had set out on, I can welcome him and hang on every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.  I'm mortified when I see the Romans making Jesus carry his own cross on the Via Dolorosa, the way of suffering.  I am shocked and dumbfounded when I hear him say from the gruesome sight on the cross, "It is finished." I can place myself as a seeker or a follower in any and all of the accounts that the Bible describes.  That means I can identify with them all.  There's a little bit of me in all of them... What about you?
