Who We Are
The ministry staff and families of Riverton Christian Church welcome you!

The Lord's church is designed to be a place of refuge, of safety, of answers. It is to be a place of encouragement and peace. For the lonely, the spiritually and emotionally wounded, the downtrodden, the church becomes a kind of hospital. For those who have found the peace of God through Christ and are on a positive spiritual journey, the church is a place of renewal and refreshment. To all people the church is to be home. You're with family that cares here!
Riverton Christian Church, located just 5 miles east of Springfield, Illinois in the town of Riverton, is nestled along the banks of the Sangamon River. The town is a small, but transforming bedroom community of about 3,000 people. We strive to be a warm and caring faith community. Through Christ's sacrifice, we are made a forever family. We invite you to be part of that family!
We seek to fulfill the Great Commission of Matthew 28.18-20 in evangelizing the lost, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and nurturing the saved. We are devoted to becoming a community of disciples centered in Christ, a family that invests in authentic relationships, and a ministry serving families in the Riverton area.
How do I get there? (click this question for a map)
What can I expect when I arrive?Upon arrival you will be greeted by people who would love to direct you to whatever services you need (restrooms, children's ministries, coffee and refreshments, office complex, the worship center...). Please feel free to take advantage of our staffed nursery at your convenience. Join us for coffee and refreshments in the Family Life Center. Those greeting will also be able to direct you to the appropriate Sunday School classes should you and your family arrive during the 9-10:00am hour. If you need your cell phone on, we encourage you to turn off the ringer.
What are services like?
We offer two worship services for your convenience and taste. Our 8am service is the more traditional worship service. The 10:15am service is a contemporary worship time. Both offer moving music to worship in, times of prayer, communion, offering, a positive message, and the opportunity to receive and commit yourself to Christ as Lord and Savior of your life.
How is communion taken?
All who claim Christ as both Lord and Savior are welcome to join us for communion. We have music and a meditation time to more fully prepare our hearts for this central focus of the worship time together. A team of individuals will serve each row of seats and communion is taken as it is passed. If you feel unprepared in your heart to take communion with us, don't feel obligated to do so and please don't feel uncomfortable about it. The Bible tells us to examine the motivation of our hearts prior to taking communion. If that heart is not in a good place, you might choose not to partake at that time.
Do I have to give money?
If you are our special guest or are visiting with us from far away, don't feel obligated to give money during the offering, though you are welcome to do so. As the body of believers at Riverton, we believe it is part of our worship to offer back to God a portion of what He has entrusted us with.
What about baptism?
Should you be led to make a commitment to Christ before or during the service, consider coming forward while the invitation song is being sung toward the end of the service. We believe that anyone who is old enough to recognize sin in his or her own life and can make a conscious effort to turn away from that sin in repentance is old enough to be baptized. Baptism is done by immersion (i.e., you go completely and bodily under the water) out of obedience and in identification with the Lord's death, burial, and resurrection from the dead. We are baptized for the forgiveness of our sins, not for membership alone. Should you have any questions about salvation and baptism, please call one of the ministry staff or elders of the congregation. We'll be glad to talk with you.

Our 10:15 am service is now interpreted for the deaf! Other special events of the church are interpreted as well. For more information, please email the church office (rccoffc@sbcglobal.net) or Grant Ray directly (pastorgrant09@yahoo.com).
